Our aspiration is to be the leading International Bank in Taiwan. We are a resilient and profitable franchise that continues to create value for the Group since we opened our first branch here in 1985. In 2006, we acquired Hsinchu International Bank. Today, we have a full range of financial products and services for both individual and institutional clients, and a team of close to 3,000 passionate individuals who work together to drive our business towards our aspiration.
Taiwan is well known as a high-tech hub with leading companies across semiconductor, electronics and telecommunications sectors. We facilitate innovative financial solutions for institutional clients from international trade to supply chain management, capital markets, sustainable finance and project financing through our expertise and network in 59 markets. We are well positioned across the most affluent areas in Taiwan with a comprehensive network to serve individual clients and fulfil their needs on wealth management for generations to come. We continue to innovate to make a difference to our clients through digital innovations, products and services, bringing them simpler, better and faster ways to bank.
Sustainability is integrated across our business, operations and community. It guides everything we do, from the product and services we provide our clients, to the way we run our bank and support our local communities. We are also committed to Taiwan and will continue to support the growth aspirations of our clients and people while driving commerce and prosperity in this market through our unique diversity. We want people to innovate together, generate new ideas, solve problems, continuously improve and, ever so often, create a step change. In every market we call home, we are here for good.

Taiwan’s goal is to generate 20% of its energy from renewable energy by 2025. We’re integrating sustainability into all our decision-making across our business, operations and communities. We see lots of opportunity for us to use our core business of banking to promote sustainable development by providing access to financial services, including sustainable finance, and by working with clients to manage the environmental and social risks associated with the financing we provide to clients operating in potentially high-impact sectors.
So far, we have financed a total of $700 million towards five wind farm projects and two solar plants in Taiwan. We continue to look for opportunities to do more.
We work closely with our institutional clients on their net zero transition. In 2021, we inked two landmark Sustainability Linked Loans with TSMC and ASE, both leading companies in the semiconductor industry, for $2 billion and $505 million respectively to support their aspiration toward a more sustainable future.
We are also the first international bank to introduce green mortgages and sustainable time deposits. Our range of ESG themed investment products support individual clients to fulfil their wealth management goals sustainably.
Our Consumer, Private and Business Banking (CPBB) business is amongst the top in Asia. With the most comprehensive network located across affluent areas in Taiwan, we have the ambition to be bank of choice among high-net-worth clients with our unique Priority Banking services and offers.
For affluent individuals in Taiwan, we have refreshed and accelerated our international banking offering by investing in onboarding and transacting capabilities as well as our wealth proposition across key corridors in our network. Standard Chartered is the first and only international bank in Taiwan that provides Signature Witnessing and Document Verification service under our international banking offering, especially for Taiwanese within the region to support their cross border financial needs.
We also make wealth management simple, combining a digital-first model with face-to-face advice from our experts for more complex decisions and planning. With award winning products and services, we are recognised as the Best Wealth Management Bank in Taiwan by Wealth Magazine for five consecutive years since 2017 and the Best Digital Wealth Management Experience in Taiwan by The Asset’s Triple A Awards. We have recently been awarded the Most Recommended Retail Bank in Taiwan by The Asian Banker in 2022.
Digitisation is a key strategy to drive our growth from mass retail clients by delivering everyday banking solutions with a great experience. Currently, more than 90% of Consumer, Private and Business Banking transactions are digital including our newly introduced lending platform for SMEs.
Our recent partnership with PChome, leading e-commerce operator in Taiwan promotes sophisticated financial solutions for merchants and showcases our aspirations to scale up our capabilities to serve emerging sectors in the new economy.

Our network differentiates us. We’re present in 59 markets and serve clients in a further 83, across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. This international network and our detailed understanding of our markets allow us to offer a tailored proposition to multinational corporates and financial institutions – investors, insurers, banks and sponsors – as they trade, invest and expand across borders. With our extensive footprint in all 10 ASEAN markets, our Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking (CCIB) business is well placed to support Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy and is the most connected banking partner to help our clients expand into the region. We have the ability to connect suppliers across complex supply chains in multiple markets, offering improved access to finance for greater resilience.
In Taiwan’s capital market, we are the lead arranger for international bond issuance with our expertise and network. In the beginning of 2022, we successfully listed the first Formosa Bond for State Bank of India in Taiwan, India, and Singapore amounting to a total of $300 million. Our team is well recognised and has been awarded as Best Formosa Bond by The Asset, Best Formosa Dealer by Collaborative Market Data (CMD) and Best Formosa House by mtn-i since 2015.
What sets us apart is our diversity – of people, cultures and networks. We’re building the bank for the new economy – one that is more inclusive, collaborative, and innovative. We’re developing a workforce that is future-ready and creating an exceptional employee experience, all built on good conduct and our valued behaviours. We’ve launched hybrid working, combining virtual and office-based operations with greater flexibility in working patterns and locations. This significant step towards a more inclusive workplace supports the wellbeing of our diverse workforce, consciously balancing individual choice and flexibility with business and client needs.
We moved to our new head office last December. Sustainability and inclusion are two key design element themes within our new office building. We wanted to make a positive difference and incorporate as many sustainable elements and features into our building as possible. At the same time, our new office is designed for the future of work, and we believe that our new environment will enable our people to be more collaborative, effective and also inspire their creativity. Our new office environment and design enables our people to have a better understanding of our goal to be the most sustainable bank in the industry and as a result, be ambassadors to share best practices from these learnings with others around them.
We continue to invest in our people to ensure they build the skills needed for the future. We also invest in the health, safety and resilience of our people with wellbeing tools and mental health support. We are also proud to provide and support colleagues with disabilities and have 13 outstanding visually impaired staff working in our contact centre team with three of them having been with the Bank for more than 10 years.
Promoting the social and economic wellbeing of our community is a critical component of our strategy to support sustainable development. We aim to create more inclusive economies by sharing skills and expertise through volunteering and developing community programmes that promote economic inclusion and transform lives through Futuremakers by Standard Chartered.
In Taiwan, we partner key non-governmental organisations to support youth especially women and visually impaired under Futuremakers programmes. As of 2021, we positively impacted nearly 2,500 disadvantaged youth to learn, earn and grow, and supported 91 youth with visually impairment to secure work since the programme started in Q4 2019.
As the largest charity race in Taiwan, Standard Chartered Taipei Marathon is our flagship event since we started sponsoring the race in 2013. With more than 20,000 runners every year, this is a great platform to raise awareness of Futuremakers by Standard Chartered and fund raise to support activities that tackle economic inclusion for disadvantaged youth. With contributions from runners of the marathon, our clients and the public, we have donated more than $2.31 million to support local NGOs since 2013.
We are Best CSR Bank Taiwan by World Economic Magazine in 2022 and received Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards on Social Empowerment by Enterprise Asia and Best CSR Initiative by Retail Banking International in 2021.
