Uplifting young people in times of trouble

The turmoil in the Ukraine has led millions of migrants to escape to neighbouring countries like Poland. To help support displaced young people, we launched a Futuremakers emergency support project in Poland together with our long-term partner Youth Business International (YBI).

Along with their member Youth Business Poland, YBI will deliver this career-readiness and entrepreneurship project – BEST by Futuremakers – to at least 10,000 young working-age displaced Ukrainians in Poland.

The project supports those seeking work, wanting to re-start businesses they were forced to abandon, or to start a business for the first time. As well as activities like mentoring and webinar trainings, support is being given to foster social cohesion and help overcome language barriers.

Success story

Before the war, Polina ran a successful and well-regarded nursery school in Ukraine. When she fled to Warsaw with her son, she hoped to do the same, but lacked local market understanding.

By participating in this project, Polina learned about accounting and tax, and connected with an industry-expert mentor to guide her in her business set-up.

Mentoring story

Warsaw-based Standard Chartered employee Daniel signed up early to volunteer with BEST by Futuremakers, eager to share his personal experience with Poland’s immigration system and professional marketing knowledge.

In his role as a mentor, Daniel advised young Ukrainians on how to set-up a business in their new home.
